About the 2010 Bethel Challenge!

On Sunday October 4th, 2009 at Bethel Bible Chapel in Shelburne Jack Gault launched the “2010 Bethel Challenge” with the aid of a PowerPoint presentation.  Visit
www.bethelshelburne.com now and view the short presentation for yourself.  We challenged everyone to read the New Testament portion of the Bible in one year and journal their adventure in the free Planner books to be ordered.  Almost everyone in the congregation at Bethel Bible Chapel have said they will do it!  On Sunday, December 20th, 2009 the Devotional Day Planners will be distributed to those who ordered one.  All who accepted the challenge will begin January 1st, 2010.

The related Bethel Forum is available for Bethel Website Members who can use the Internet to keep up to date and be part of the discussion.  There will also be a physical bulletin board for those without Internet access where a printed version of the discussion will be displayed.  Interested people may meet together at Bethel Chapel to discuss "face to face" one night each week.  A summary of the verbal discussions will be posted on the Bethel Forum.

Q:  Where is the link on Bethel’s website?

A:  After following the link above you will be directed to the Home page of Bethel’s website.  Look on the lower left of the webpage (you may have to scroll down) and then you will see a small picture of the 2010 devotional DAY PLANNER.  Under the picture it has written, “2010 Bethel Challenge” and “(Click here to learn more)”.

To proceed from there, click on the word “here” and you’ll see the first webpage and then click the word “next” (under the picture) to continue until you have viewed all through to the last page.

Q:  What is it about?

A1:  If you look at the presentation on Bethel’s website you can see what it looks like for yourself.  Even if you heard the verbal presentation please continue to read this article anyway because there is more information here than was in the original presentation.  …

A2:  If you choose to accept Bethel’s Challenge you will receive a FREE book about the size of one of Bethel’s Red Hymnals (but about one third as thick).   It contains a plan for every day in the year 2010:  It is designed to give you a Bible verse (or two) each day along with an encouraging comment and thought provoking question.  You are also given a chapter (or less) from the Bible to read each day.  There are two other Bible reading tracts available for anyone who wants to do more than the minimum.

This Devotional Day Planner is also designed to be used as a "quiet time" journal as it contains space for each day for you to briefly write in your thoughts related to your reading and any prayer requests so you can see when God answers your prayers and how God is speaking through His word directly to you!  The Bethel Challenge is to stick with this plan until by the end of the year 2010 you will have read through the entire New Testament!

You may be thinking, “I likely won’t be able to consistently do that by myself”.  …

Q:  Is there HELP available to keep me on track and accountable

A:  YES!  The beauty is that you don’t have to do it all alone!  You may, if you like, choose to work along with a friend who can also be your prayer partner.  Also, most of your friends and acquaintances at Bethel Bible Chapel will (hopefully) be doing the same thing!

Also Bethel will tie into the passages people are reading in as many ways as we can think of.  E.g. talk to your friends at “College and Careers” or whatever Bible Study small group you are a part of.  Maybe some will want to chat with their friend(s) using Facebook or even Bethel Chapel’s website private FORUM.

Q:  What if I fail to keep up with the commitment?

A:  If you start and keep on schedule for a while and then fail – just speak to your friend who will pray harder for you and try to encourage you to get up, forget about the past and start again!  Your accountability partner will be there for you (… and vise versa …)!

… BUT I’m a busy person. …

Q:  When will I have the time to fit this into my busy schedule?  How long will it take each day?

A:  We always find time to do what we want to do!  After you start doing this on a regular basis you will begin to enjoy your time with God and your friend(s).  You will have something in common to talk about!  They say it should only take a person from 5 to 7 minutes per day.

… But I am already following a Bible devotional /study program.  …

Q:  Do you expect me to drop everything I am already doing to accept The Bethel Challenge

A:  NO.  You do as you please.  We have no intention of twisting anyone’s arm or forcing you to accept this challenge.  There are a few already that have indicated that they can’t participate this time.  Maybe we’ll catch them next time.

As Bethel BIBLE Chapel’s elders we think it would be a great idea that people who attend Bethel are consistently reading their Bible and developing a daily prayer time (of whatever length of time each person has to spend).

Maybe you will want to finish the study you are doing now while watching how others from Bethel are enjoying their new devotional planner and how many will be “on the same page” when they see each other.

And let’s not forget that God, our Heavenly Father loves us beyond our wildest estimation, comprehension and belief!  He thoroughly enjoys our company!  He keeps a journal of when we talk to one another about Him and His Word.  If you don’t believe me, read Malachi 3:16 & 17!

God journals too!  Just like loving parents who write down and treasure every cute thing their children say and as they keep everything (pictures drawn, etc.) that their children give to them!

God Bless You!

Jack (and Jim)
